LAKE NEWS

January and February are perfect times to do a couple of nautical things like take boating courses and/or take sailing trips. The Boat House offers both. We offer the American Sailing Association Coastal Navigation course, ASA 105. This course is taught shore side over a weekend using nautical charts and mathematical formulas. A student uses these formulas to calculate the set and drift of a boat moving through the water in tidal conditions (like the coast of Georgia). The on the water application of this course is ASA 106. We are also a testing site for US Coast Licensing Exams via Merchant Mariner Learning Systems. This course is a distance learning course that you take whenever your schedule allows it. As a US Coast Guard Captain you can be paid to take people out on a boat.

We have access to a 44' sail boat in the British Virgin Islands. We offer a "dream come true" seven day sailing trip for $1995 per cabin (a cabin can sleep two people). There are two cabins available per trip.

Please go to the links on our website www.kyscboathouse.com for more information about the American Sailing Association and Merchant Learning Systems. Or contact us at 770.314.1555 or 770.887.7966 or marina@lakearrowheadga.com.

WEBSITE/VOUCHERS The KYSC Lake Arrowhead Boat House has its new website up and running. Visit www.kyscboathouse.com to view event photos, inventory and make reservations.

For those of you who have already purchased, or are looking into purchasing, our boating vouchers, this makes it very easy to reserve boats for your future outings without worrying about availability! Bookings are available up to a year in advance, ensuring you can get something for your special days and occasions. If you are looking into purchasing a boat, but don't plan on using it more than 60 hours a year, renting is the better option for you.

COMMUNITY REMINDERS

SKIING REMINDERS
• It is illegal for the operator of the towing vessel or person(s) being towed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• A boat or PWC must not tow persons on water skis or similar devices within 100 feet of a vessel not underway or adrift , a dock or pier, a bridge, a person in the water, a shoreline adjacent to a residence, a public park or beach, a swimming area, a marina, a restaurant, or any other public use area.

PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE LAKE
• When operating your personal watercraft , consider the effect you may have on the environment.
• Make sure that the water you operate in is at least 30 inches deep. Riding in shallow water can cause bott om sediments or aquatic vegetation to be sucked into the pump, damaging your PWC and the environment.
• Avoid causing erosion by operating at slow speed and by not creating a wake when operating near shore or in narrow streams or rivers.
